Where's the time gone?

Where's the time gone?

While writing my SWOT analysis I've realized that my strengths and weakness have something to do with the time management. Very organized in managing everyday life, but also tendency to leave things for the last minute. How can I be good and not so good at the same thing? Situations like this one give us a great opportunity to think about how we going through tasks in our lives. In my case there is a necessity to be organized on the everyday bases so I can manage when things go tough and I have to complete a great amount of work just before the deadline. Or is it the other way round? Maybe I tend to leave my tasks for later just because I am aware that I can organize myself well enough to be able to deliver. Recalling my first six weeks at the university I remember to telling myself how important it is to progress with my work steadily. It helped and I felt more committed to it this time than in my previous courses. Although there is still a long way to go for me, the SWOT diagram is a very important step in this journey.

Brixton Market visit

Brixton Market visit

As a part of our inspiration week we visited Brixton Market.  Seeing the market reminded me of subject we’ve been learning about in the Studio 1A lessons.   The subject was about how buildings can talk.  To me Brixton Market is a very good example of this.  What is this building trying to say to us?  First of all the sculpture of the cherries on the top of the building give us the clue what is going on inside.  What about the other part of the sculpture, the foxes? They have been familiar inhabitants of cities for long time now, but perhaps in the streets around the market they can be spotted in greater density, thanks to the dustbins full of tempting leftovers.  Inside of the market we were also able to experience many different languages of architecture. Various cafes and restaurants are offering the cuisine of different countries. They are designed the way we could easily identify the type of food they specialize in. This experience made me realize that thanks to my studies I look now at buildings in a different way.

Feedback sheets ahhh

The time came when the class got the feed back sheets in ohh lord was an eye opener it was. I keep reading it again and again and god i know everything what is said is correct and helping me its just the fact of trying to put all what has been said into this project in on now. It is so hard changing how i do things to improve on my weekpoints but i guess harder i try now will benifit me. I didnt do to bad for my first project but i didnt do to well either so the next project im hoping to step up my game and hopefully it will pay off but how long will this take i wonder.

My Vark learning style

Ah ok well, I did my vark questionaire the other week and all i have been doing in the imbetween time is thinking over and over again, am i actually an aural learner? So i asked my mother as you do in silly moments like this do you think im an aural learner? She was like "I have no idea" what help that was ay. So i sat down and thought who could i ask or how could i actually prove to myself that i am an aural learner, Then it hit me i have the whole entire world on my finger tips. Next thing i did was jump on the computer and google and wikipedia it was. Now it was question time i guess so i asked myself does this sound like me? Am i an aural learner? And also i asked myself do i think improving on other learning styles help how i learn in the future?... I guess i am an aural learner and it was obviouse everything said about aural learners describes my learning style to a T. So yes the vark results where correct i am an aural learner.

Barbican

The Barbican Centre visit

We visited the Barbican Centre as part of our "39 Steps..." assignment. It was an interesting experience to make our way through many different levels of  floors and mezzanines. How many were there?   We possibly wouldn't have enough time to find out. I grew up surrounded by similar to Brutalist style  buildings in my native country Slovakia, but it was the first time I've stopped and appreciated this controversial architecture. Why I have not payed enough attention to this before? I guess it is because I've always felt very comfortable with simple shaped buildings without ornamental distraction.   We all found the tour and the talk very inspiring and we hope this experience will be reflected in our projects.

Visit to Brixton market

Brixton market is a small haven of flavours, smells, dreams and cultures from around the world. Using our senses we walked through the different arcades and traced memories of the past and visions of the near future..Students currently designing their new concepts for Chelsmford market drew inspiration and aspirations from the site..
